GlossaryTech Newsletter: Issue 15
Tech lingo explained in simple terms and tools to help you be a more productive recruiter/sourcer.
Folks,
The new issue of our newsletter is here for you to read. 👀
A big thanks to the Source Code Agency (CODΞ) for sponsoring GlossaryTech this September, allowing us to keep it free for the sourcing and recruiting community.
CODΞ helps companies build and maximize their sourcing capabilities. Their services include sourcing training, diversity sourcing, sourcing technology stack consulting, sourcing audits, and more.
Tech Terms Explained
👉 HBase
A column-oriented, non-relational (NoSQL) database designed to handle large amounts of data in a distributed and scalable manner. HBase provides real-time, random read/write access to massive datasets, making it ideal for apps that require quick data retrieval and processing. Additionally, it integrates seamlessly with the Hadoop ecosystem.
👉 Lit
A library developed by Google’s Polymer Project team that helps developers build reusable web components—small, modular elements of a website—using minimal code.
Lit is designed to be framework-agnostic, meaning it can be used with any JavaScript framework (like React, Angular, or Vue) or on its own without requiring a framework. Another standout feature of Lit is its templating system, which lets developers write HTML-like templates directly in JavaScript and efficiently update only the parts of the UI that change, improving performance and making it easier to manage dynamic content.
👉 Dagger
A popular dependency injection framework for Java, Kotlin, and Android. Dagger helps manage how objects and their dependencies are created and linked together. It automates the process, making it easier for developers to ensure that their classes (building blocks or components of a program) have the necessary resources without writing a lot of repetitive code.
👉 API Gateway
A crucial component in modern application architectures that acts as a single entry point for managing and routing requests from clients to various back-end services. It simplifies interactions by accepting API calls, processing them according to predefined policies, and directing them to the appropriate services while also aggregating responses for the client.
👉 TestNG
A testing framework for the Java programming language, designed to cover a wide range of test categories, including unit, functional, and integration tests. TestNG uses annotations (special markers added to methods or classes) to define test configurations, supports data-driven testing (through @DataProvider), allows parallel test execution, and provides flexible options for grouping and prioritizing tests.
Useful Tools
🔧 Extensity
A simple but effective tool for managing Chrome extensions. With just one click, you can enable or disable extensions (the ones you’re not using right now), helping to keep your browser fast.
🔧 Krisp
Krisp removes background noise from calls, making it especially useful when conducting interviews in busy environments. This ensures both you and the candidate can focus on the conversation without distractions. The app also offers features such as real-time meeting transcriptions, automated meeting notes and summaries, and more.
Krisp isn’t free (pricing starts at $8/month), but the good news is that there’s a free version with limited features you can use to test the app before committing to a paid plan.
🔧 Temp-Mail
A free and easy-to-use tool for generating disposable email addresses. With a temporary email, you can protect your privacy by avoiding spam, phishing, and unwanted newsletters. Use it to sign up for services without giving out your personal email, keeping your inbox clean and secure.
That’s it for this issue. The next one will be out at the end of next month, so stay tuned!
Best,
Team GlossaryTech
