Tech Terms Explained
👉 CockroachDB
A distributed SQL database built for scalability and high availability. CockroachDB automatically replicates and distributes data across regions or data centers, ensuring reliability and minimal downtime. With strong consistency and PostgreSQL compatibility, it’s well-suited for cloud-based applications that need fault tolerance and the ability to scale horizontally.
👉 Apache Airflow
A widely used tool for creating, scheduling, and monitoring workflows. Airflow allows developers to define workflows as code (using Python), simplifying the process of building, managing, and scaling complex data processing tasks. Its flexibility and integration capabilities make it a popular choice for managing ETL processes, machine learning pipelines, and other data-driven workflows in modern data stacks.
👉 Snapshot Testing
A testing method used by developers, primarily front-end engineers, to ensure that software outputs, like user interfaces or data structures, remain consistent over time. Snapshot testing is commonly applied in web development (e.g., with React, Angular, or Vue) and mobile app development (e.g., with React Native) to test the appearance and structure of UI components. This approach is valuable during updates or redesigns, helping developers catch unintended changes in layouts, visuals, or data formats. Snapshot testing is especially useful in projects with dynamic or reusable components.
👉 OkHttp
A popular open-source HTTP client library for Java and Kotlin, designed to simplify network communication in applications. OkHttp is commonly used by Android developers for tasks like making API calls or retrieving data, thanks to its reliability, excellent performance in mobile environments, and ability to handle complex network scenarios like retries and caching.
👉 Swagger
An open-source toolset for building, documenting, and testing APIs. Swagger uses the OpenAPI standard to define API specifications and generates interactive documentation, allowing for real-time testing of endpoints. It is widely used by back-end developers and teams working on RESTful APIs to streamline communication and development.
Useful Tools
🔧 Kleo
A free Chrome extension for LinkedIn that provides valuable analytics to track post performance, measure engagement, and optimize your content strategy. Kleo also includes content discovery tools, making it a great resource for finding inspiration.
🔧 Bitwarden
A password manager with a solid free version. Bitwarden lets you store passwords securely and access them on both your computer and mobile devices through its app. It also includes a password generator and supports two-factor authentication for extra security.
🔧 FollowUpThen
A straightforward tool that helps manage follow-up reminders via email. By adding a specific email address (e.g., 3days@followupthen.com) to a message, you can schedule automatic reminders to follow up at a chosen time. FollowUpThen works with any email client, making it easy to stay organized without cluttering your calendar.
That’s it for this issue. The next one will be out at the end of the month, so stay tuned!
Best,
Team GlossaryTech
