Tech Terms Explained
👉 LangChain
An open-source framework for building chatbots and other applications powered by large language models (LLMs). LangChain boasts a rich ecosystem of integrations with diverse external resources such as local and remote file systems, databases, and APIs. These integrations enable developers to craft versatile apps that combine the power of LLMs with the ability to access, interact with, and manipulate external data sources.
LangChain has seen a meteoric rise in popularity since its launch in October 2022. It is one of the fastest-growing open-source projects in history!
👉 Datadog
A monitoring and observability tool for IT and DevOps teams. Datadog is primarily used for infrastructure monitoring, app performance monitoring (APM), and logging, providing insights into system health and performance. Popular Datadog alternatives include New Relic, Prometheus, and Grafana, with the latter two being open source.
👉 Fastlane
An open-source tool suite for Android & iOS developers. By automating the time-consuming and error-prone aspects of building, testing, and deploying apps, Fastlane empowers developers to focus on crafting superior features and enhancing user experiences.
👉 Helm
A popular package manager for Kubernetes. Helm streamlines the deployment and management of applications (especially complex ones) in a Kubernetes cluster. It packages all the resources required to run an app inside a Kubernetes cluster into a single deployable unit called a chart, eliminating the need for engineers to manually create and manage each resource separately.
👉 Generative AI
Generative AI, also known as GenAI, is a type of artificial intelligence that leverages machine learning algorithms to generate new content, such as images, videos, audio, text, and 3D models, based on training data sets. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is probably the most well-known example of generative AI in action. This AI chatbot is powered by a large language model (LLM) trained on massive amounts of data to produce human-like text.
Useful Tools & Reads
🔧 Dub.co
An open-source alternative to Bitly. With Dub, you can create short links using your own custom domain, plus get in-depth analytics on the performance of those shortened links (including geolocation, device, browser, and referrer information).
🔧 Magical
This is a superb tool for automating repetitive tasks in your sourcing/recruiting workflow. Specifically, Magical can help you:
automate sourcing by automatically collecting candidate data from websites like LinkedIn or GitHub and sorting them into a spreadsheet;
automate data entry when you’re uploading candidate information into your ATS;
automate outreach by saving message templates within the app and calling them up anywhere so you don’t have to retype them out over and over again (or spend time copying and pasting).
📚 A Very Gentle Introduction to Large Language Models Without the Hype
This article is designed to provide people with no background in computer science with an understanding of how ChatGPT and similar AI systems work. The author gently walks through the terminology associated with large language models (LLMs) and ChatGPT without using jargon, starting with the very basics: what is artificial intelligence?
That’s it for this issue. The next one will be out three weeks later, so stay tuned!
